I didn't know where church was this morning other than the general vicinity, so I took the metro to the Porte de Hal/Hallepoort stop and just wandered around the neighborhood for a while. In addition to finding a great open air market and some really beautiful old churches, I did finally find my church (housed in a much newer building--circa 1952).
After church I was walking back to the metro when I noticed people crowding around a sign in front of the cool building that was next to the metro stop. It turns out that Porte de Hal--Halle Gate in English--is a medieval city gate built in 1381. I walked around inside briefly, but I will definitely have to come back.
